The accident happened around 9 p.m. One of the poles is leaning dangerously, and electrical cables are hanging low. This poses risks to motorists, pedestrians, nearby businesses, and residents.

In a public notice released on Tuesday, Akinlolu Akinpelumi, the Secretary of the Electricity Committee of the Arepo Area Community Development Council, urged residents to steer clear of the area and be careful.

Akinpelumi stated, “A truck accidentally pulled the high-tension line serving the Wise Buyers Distribution Transformer, resulting in significant damage to two electricity poles and associated electrical infrastructure.

“The incident has left one pole leaning dangerously while electrical cables are hanging low, creating a serious safety hazard to motorists, pedestrians, nearby businesses, and residents.”

He advised everyone to stay away from the damaged poles and hanging cables. He warned them not to touch, move, or drive over any of the affected electrical equipment.

“We strongly advise everyone to stay away from the damaged poles and all fallen or hanging electrical cables. Do not attempt to touch, move, or drive over any of the affected cables or electrical equipment,” he said.

Akinpelumi mentioned that the incident has been reported to the electricity distribution company. They are working to secure the damaged infrastructure.

“The incident has been reported to Ikeja Electric, and we are engaging the relevant technical team to ensure the damaged infrastructure is secured and repairs are carried out as quickly as possible.

“The extent of the damage may affect power supply to customers served by the Wise Buyers Distribution Transformer until the necessary repairs are completed,” he added.

He urged residents to stay calm, cooperate with emergency and technical personnel, and quickly report any other hazards in the area while repairs are ongoing.
