The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested two people and rescued a teenage girl. She was said to have been kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Patrick Ebojele, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, shared this in a statement on Wednesday. He mentioned that the incident happened as security agencies and the Edo State Government work hard to fight violent crimes, especially those against women and children.
The statement said the incident was reported on June 19, 2026. One Odion Enokhimion went to the NSCDC Ewohimi Division to report his sister missing. She was allegedly taken by unknown people the day before.
After the complaint, officials began an investigation. This led to the arrest of two suspects, Orhiabor ThankGod, 20, and Saturday Freedom, 16, both living in Ewohimi. The girl was rescued and placed in protective care.
Ebojele said the investigation showed that the suspects contacted the girl’s family after the kidnapping. They asked for a ransom, first demanding N800,000 and later lowering it to N300,000.
He added that investigators traced conversations between the suspects and the victim’s family. They found these messages on a mobile phone belonging to one of the suspects. They also identified an account linked to the suspects during the investigation.
The statement noted that a medical exam at the Edo State Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Sen. Daisy Ehanire Danjuma Vivian Centre in Benin City, confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted. She has received medical treatment and counselling since the incident.
The NSCDC stated that the suspects are still in custody. They will be taken to court once the investigation is complete.
