Voters Claim Money Was Shared at Osun Election Polls

Voters at a polling unit in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State claim that some people linked to the All Progressives Congress were sharing money during Saturday’s governorship election.

A video recorded at Ward 4, Unit 7 shows voters confronting those accused of handing out cash at the polling place.

According to the voters, this happened around 9:30 a.m. A similar claim was made about an incident at Ward 4, Unit 13 at around 10:30 a.m.

One voter, who spoke in the video, said the people accused of giving out money ran away with some cash in a polythene bag.

"We don’t know how much was there. They ran away and used a polythene bag to take the money away," the voter said.

This voter said that the alleged money distribution went against the rules set for voters and political actors, which prohibited cash sharing at polling units.

"The rule given to us was that we should not give money to anyone. We did not cause any trouble; we were only running after them," the voter added.

Some voters also showed cash they claimed to have taken from people accused of sharing money. They also displayed a card they said belonged to the APC.

"This is the evidence. The card they used belongs to the APC, and their logo is on it," another voter stated.

The incident reportedly took place at a polling unit connected to Najeem Salaam, also known as Iwaloye, the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate.

However, the voters alleged that those who were distributing the money were tied to the APC.

"We are talking about Iwaloye, the ADC candidate. At his unit, APC members are sharing money. It happened at about 9:30 a.m. in Unit 7 and 10:30 a.m. in Unit 13," one voter claimed.

These allegations could not be independently verified right away, and there was no immediate comment from the APC as of the time this report was filed.
