Wike Says He's Not Seeking APC Campaign Role

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that he is trying to become the director-general of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.

Wike shared this in a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, on Monday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some media outlets listed Wike among top party members and officials who are either lobbying or being considered for the APC presidential campaign DG role.

In response, Wike, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party but works in the APC-led federal government, called the report false. He said, "I did not at any time discuss leadership or even membership of the PCC with anyone."

He reaffirmed his strong support for President Bola Tinubu's reelection, stating that he doesn’t need to be the DG or even a member of the PCC to help Tinubu win in Rivers and the FCT.

"I am currently outside Nigeria, resting and relaxing after spending over 30 days inaugurating completed and new projects and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January."

Wike added, "When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to further enhance his electoral fortunes in Rivers and the FCT."

He emphasized, "Therefore, I do not need to be the DG or even a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota."

Wike concluded, "I will ensure that Tinubu wins with wide margins in Rivers and the FCT."
