The All Progressives Congress candidate, Anthony Osarobo, has won the chairmanship of Ovia South West Local Government. He emerged victorious in Saturday’s local government election.

Osarobo received 98,994 votes from the council’s 10 wards.

Dr Arodoye Nosakhare, the Returning Officer for the election, announced the result on Saturday at the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission Local Government Collation Centre. He declared Osarobo duly elected after he beat candidates from 11 other parties.

The Returning Officer explained that the APC candidate got the highest number of valid votes in the election. He was therefore declared elected according to the electoral guidelines.

“After the collation of results across different party lines, the APC chairmanship candidate, having scored the majority of valid votes, is hereby returned elected,” Dr Nosakhare stated.

Final results showed that the APC had a strong lead with 98,994 votes. Other parties performed much lower in comparison.

The Allied Peoples Movement got 28 votes, the Action Alliance had 42 votes, and the African Action Congress scored 32 votes. The Action Democratic Party received 26 votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance managed 25 votes. The Allied Peoples Movement got five votes, the Action People’s Party had 12 votes, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Peoples Redemption Party, and Young Progressives Party each received one vote. The Zenith Labour Party secured 15 votes.

An excited Osarobo, who is now one of the youngest chairmen in Ovia South West Local Government, thanked the voters for their support.

He said, “I am happy to have emerged as the Chairman-elect of Ovia South West. I do not take this victory for granted because it was made possible by the support and confidence reposed in me by the people.

“I will use this mandate to work tirelessly for the development and progress of Ovia South West.”

In response to the results, the Edo State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion, praised the election as transparent. He also thanked the public for their peaceful participation.

He congratulated Osarobo on his win and expressed hope that the chairman-elect would keep his campaign promises and bring real development to Ovia South West.
