Young Man Allegedly Kills Father in Anambra

A 20-year-old man named Pascal Ogbogu has reportedly killed his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, located in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Reports say that Ogbogu attacked his father on the throat with a machete on Tuesday. After the attack, he hid his father's body in a room and ran away.

Police from the Eziowelle Police Division arrested Ogbogu with help from family members and local vigilantes after receiving a distress call.

The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the story in a statement on Wednesday. He said that the preliminary details show that the crime happened on Tuesday evening. The father’s body has been taken to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The statement said, “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, has praised the quick response and community help that led to the arrest of Pascal Ogbogu, who is accused of killing his father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.

“Preliminary information reveals that, on the evening of August 25, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked his father and ran away.

“After the distress call, police from the Eziowelle Police Division, along with family members and the Abatete Vigilante, quickly went to the scene. They discovered the deceased’s body in a pool of blood, with a deep machete wound on the throat.

“The body was later taken to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

“The suspect, who fled the scene after the attack, was caught in the early hours of August 26, 2026. This was made possible by the combined efforts of the police and Abatete Vigilante members.

“Community members provided timely information and helped security operatives in locating him.”

The CP thanked the family, community members, police, and vigilante personnel for their quick action and teamwork.

He emphasized that community involvement, quick sharing of information, and cooperation between police and local people are key to good policing and protecting lives and property.

“While expressing sympathy to the family of the deceased, the CP ordered that the case be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. This will help to clarify what happened and ensure all relevant facts are gathered.

“The commissioner promised the family and the public that the investigation will be carried out in a professional, thorough, and careful manner according to the law. He assured that the suspect will face the law after the investigation is complete,” the statement continued.
