The Delta State Police have put away sixteen men for crimes like conspiracy, stealing government property, damaging property, and having illegal drugs.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, shared this news in a statement to reporters in Warri on Friday. He said this shows the police's commitment to protecting public infrastructure and upholding the law.
On July 15, 2026, Magistrate Court 3 in Asaba found the sixteen guilty and sentenced them to three years in prison at Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre.
The convictions came after they were charged with conspiracy and stealing iron rods owned by the Delta State Government. They also damaged government property on purpose, which goes against the Criminal Code Law of Delta State. They were also caught with twenty cups of Colorado (Kolos), which is illegal under the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act, according to the police.
The convicted individuals are Yaro Abdul (25), Mohammed Isah (31), Hassan Jato (23), Azeez Bello (18), Duru Lawrence (27), Tijani Hassan (23), Muasu Alabo (27), Lawal Zardi (18), Gambo Abdul (18), Ali Musa (21), Musa Abdul (18), Umuru Kasa (19), Gaga Amos (25), Sani Garuba (18), Hanza Garuba (24), and Abdul Ahi Jubrin (18).
In other news, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the thorough investigation and successful court case.
He stated, "The conviction sends a clear message that vandalism of public assets, theft, and drug-related crimes will face serious consequences."
Oyeniyi also emphasized that the police will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations. This is to protect public property and keep law and order in the state.
