The Delta State Police have convicted sixteen men for crimes like conspiracy, stealing government property, damaging property, and having illegal drugs.
The police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, shared a statement with reporters in Warri on Friday. He said this shows the Command's commitment to protecting public infrastructure and enforcing the law.
On July 15, 2026, Magistrate Court 3 in Asaba found the 16 men guilty. Each received a three-year prison sentence at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre.
The convictions were for criminal conspiracy, stealing iron rods belonging to the Delta State Government, intentionally damaging government property, and having twenty cups of Colorado (Kolos). These actions break the Criminal Code Law of Delta State and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act, according to the PPRO.
The convicted men are Yaro Abdul (25), Mohammed Isah (31), Hassan Jato (23), Azeez Bello (18), Duru Lawrence (27), Tijani Hassan (23), Muasu Alabo (27), Lawal Zardi (18), Gambo Abdul (18), Ali Musa (21), Musa Abdul (18), Umuru Kasa (19), Gaga Amos (25), Sani Garuba (18), Hanza Garuba (24), and Abdul Ahi Jubrin (18).
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the thorough investigation and successful prosecution of the case.
The police chief said, "The conviction sends a clear message that vandalism of public assets, theft, and drug-related offences will be met with the full weight of the law."
He promised that the police will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations to protect public property and keep law and order in the state.
