The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has said that the recent attacks by the Federal Government on its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, show that President Bola Tinubu is worried about Makinde’s growing popularity ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, on Wednesday, the APM said the Tinubu administration is resorting to name-calling because it has no solid achievements to show Nigerians. The party insists that Makinde will beat Tinubu in the 2027 election.
During an interview with journalists on Monday, Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, dismissed Makinde and the APM as unimportant for the 2027 elections.
The APM reacted by calling it sad and unfortunate that the Tinubu Presidency has sunk to such low political tactics. They argued that instead of tackling key issues, the administration is making personal attacks.
The statement said, “It is rather sad that the Tinubu Presidency has fallen so low that it now relies on discredited people like Daniel Bwala to represent it on national TV. This shows that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu no longer has the backing of credible Nigerians.
“Since Daniel Bwala’s scandalous interview with Al Jazeera on March 6, 2026, Nigerians can see through the tricks of President Tinubu’s team. Daniel Bwala will soon regret his words about Governor Makinde.
“In any case, the 2027 Presidential race will be between Governor Seyi Makinde, who stands with millions of Nigerians wanting change, and a failing President Tinubu, who only has the weak support of a few corrupt, arrogant people on his payroll.
The APM said it is not interested in trading insults, focusing instead on issues that matter to Nigerians.
The statement continued, “Of course, President Tinubu should be worried because Governor Makinde is entering the contest with an impressive record. He has transformed Oyo State into a leading economic state, even surpassing Abuja according to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). Nigerians want him to do the same nationally.
“The Tinubu Presidency is nervous because Nigerians are eager to elect Governor Seyi Makinde as the next President. They want to benefit from his plans to improve the economy, enhance security, rebuild infrastructure, boost productivity, create jobs, fight corruption, and bring a new hope to the people.
“Why wouldn’t the Tinubu Presidency be anxious when Governor Makinde has the full support of over 50 million young Nigerians? These young people feel trapped by the Tinubu administration and are rallying around our candidate for the new Nigeria they desire. They are ready to vote for him in 2027 and protect their votes.
“To say that a presidential candidate with such massive support is ‘unimportant’ shows more about the fears in the corridors of power than it does about the candidate. In fact, by noon on election day, the Presidency will know who is truly unimportant in this race.
