The Adamawa State Police Command is looking into claims of illegal arrests, wrongful detention, and bail extortion against the Divisional Police Officer of Jambutu Division.

The command shared this news in a statement on Saturday through its Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.

This statement came after a report titled, "Adamawa Residents Demand Removal of Jambutu DPO Over Alleged Arbitrary Arrests, Bail Extortion."

The command said it takes these accusations seriously. It has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Hamzat Tambai, to carry out a thorough and careful investigation.

"The Command takes the allegations seriously and wishes to state categorically that it does not condone arbitrary arrests, unlawful detention, extortion, or any form of professional misconduct by its personnel," the statement said.

The police also emphasized that bail is free. They warned officers against asking for money from people in return for bail.

"Bail is free, and no police officer is authorised to demand or receive money from members of the public as a condition for granting bail," the statement added.

The police encouraged anyone with information about these allegations to come forward. They asked people to help the investigation by providing specific details and any available evidence.

People can submit such information to the SCID headquarters in Yola or the nearest police station.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of citizens.
