Adeleke: My Dancing Does Not Distract Me from Governing

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has defended his love for dancing. He says it does not get in the way of his job as he aims for a second term in office.

Adeleke shared this on Tuesday during a town hall meeting hosted by Arise TV for candidates in the upcoming Osun State governorship election on August 15.

The governor called himself a "prudent worker". He stated that dancing is part of who he is and a fun activity he enjoys. He insisted that he has completed many projects across different sectors despite his public dancing.

"I dance because in my family, we are jolly good fellows. As I am dancing, I am working. There is time for everything, there is time to dance, and there is time to work. Dancing does not stop me from working. I have delivered across all sectors," Adeleke said.

This response comes after Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, criticized Adeleke for his dancing. During an APC campaign rally in Osun State, Okpebholo mocked him and asked voters to reject what he called the "dancing governor."

Adeleke advised those upset by his dancing to learn how to dance. He stressed that his dancing has not harmed his work performance.

"If they can’t dance, I can teach them how to dance," he said.

The governor mentioned that his people appreciate who he is and insisted that dancing is just a hobby for him.

"Dancing is a hobby. That does not affect my work. My people love me," he said.

Adeleke defended his administration's efforts, saying his government has built and fixed many roads in the state. He added that they have also installed solar-powered streetlights on some of these roads.

"As I’m speaking to you, I did not only build roads across Osun, I installed them with solar lights. This we did to provide security and enhance economic development," he said.

He also mentioned that his government has upgraded and fixed more than 200 primary healthcare facilities. He said these facilities are now equipped with electricity and clean water.

"As of today, we have upgraded and rehabilitated over 200 primary healthcare facilities to global standards, equipped with electricity and clean water," Adeleke said.

He added that qualified engineers have confirmed that the projects completed by his government meet international standards.

Adeleke is running for re-election with the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, which he used to win the governorship election in 2022.

He is up against the All Progressives Congress candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, among others, in Saturday’s election.
