Ajia Kicks Off Kwara NDC Campaign for 2027 Election

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Kwara State, Abdulmumin Ajia, has started his campaign for the 2027 governorship election. He promised to focus on security, education, healthcare, job creation and infrastructure if he wins.

Ajia launched his campaign in Ilorin on Thursday. He also introduced his “Forward Kwara Agenda,” which he said aims to create a solid development plan for the state.

The candidate criticized the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party. He described these two parties as examples of what he calls “old politics.”

He said the APC and PDP handle governance with scattered projects and political convenience instead of a clear development strategy. “The APC and PDP represent the old approach of scattered projects, political convenience and programmes that do not work together,” Ajia said.

Ajia stated that the NDC would take a different route. He wants to connect security, education, healthcare, transportation, agriculture, employment and local development.

He promised to improve public schools and health facilities. He also said he would expand affordable health insurance, fix roads and public transportation, and support traders, artisans, farmers and small businesses.

Ajia plans to link education and skills training to jobs. He wants to boost agricultural production and processing and create a plan to handle unpaid pensioners’ gratuities.

He said his administration would share its main promises, deadlines and the agencies responsible for them. This way, residents can keep track of how well they are doing.

“We will publish our commitments. We will report our progress. We will explain delays. And we will accept responsibility for our performance,” he stated.

Ajia said his campaign will focus on real issues instead of attacking political opponents. He wants to serve the people, not just enrich himself. “I will never be party to anything or anyone that will corrupt the system,” he said.

He called on voters to hold elected officials accountable. He warned against letting party loyalty get in the way of what is best for the state. “Do not give us four years of silence. Do not defend us when we are wrong simply because you voted for us,” Ajia said.

As part of his campaign, Ajia visited different areas of Ilorin. He interacted with residents and traders and also met some traditional leaders to ask for their support and blessings.

He visited the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin and the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku. Ajia also went to the site of an accident on Taiwo Road. He showed sympathy to the victims and got their contact details, promising to help them.

At the campaign launch, he introduced a retired educator, Elder Ajayi Israel Awolowo, as his running mate. He also presented the party’s candidates for the National Assembly and state House of Assembly elections.

The NDC candidate urged Kwarans to vote for all the party’s candidates in the governorship, National Assembly, and state Assembly elections. He said a unified mandate would help the party carry out its development plans.

“We are not asking for a blank cheque. We are asking for the opportunity to serve and accepting the obligation to account for that service,” he said.
