Americans Cast Votes for New Congress Members in Midterm Elections

Millions of Americans are at polling stations across the country today, voting to choose new members of Congress in the midterm elections.

This election will play a big part in shaping the country’s political future and the power balance in Washington.

Voters are picking representatives for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, plus 35 Senate seats, which include two special elections. Several states are also voting for governors.

This election is happening at a key time for President Donald Trump’s administration. Both Republican and Democratic parties are fighting to control Congress for the last two years of his term.

Republicans have a 53-47 majority in the Senate and a narrow lead in the House of Representatives. Democrats are hoping to win enough seats to take charge of both the Senate and the House.

Some of the closely watched Senate races are in Alaska, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas.

The party that controls Congress will influence the power balance in Washington. The results from the midterms will affect the legislative agenda and who leads congressional committees.

If Republicans have a majority in both houses, President Donald Trump would find it easier to push his agenda for the rest of his term.

But if Democrats regain a majority in either or both chambers, they will have more influence over the nation’s laws.

President Trump has been campaigning hard for Americans to vote Republican. In September, he promised to pay each adult American $5,000 if Republicans keep control of Congress.

Yet, Republicans are worried that Trump’s unpopularity might hurt their chances in the election. Many people are unhappy with rising inflation and high prices for goods and gas.

His unpopularity is also linked to the trade issues with China and Canada, and there are worries about the US conflict with Iran.

On Tuesday, Trump called the upcoming midterm elections the most important “in our lifetime.” He also said that the Democratic candidates are “the most extreme and dangerous” in the country’s history.
