Anambra NSCDC Seizes Truck with Adulterated Diesel as Driver Escapes

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has seized a truck carrying 45,000 litres of adulterated Automotive Gas Oil mixed with gas condensates.

Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant, shared this news with reporters at the NSCDC Headquarters in Awka on Wednesday. He mentioned that the truck was taken during an inspection.

Olatunde explained that the driver saw the NSCDC team and ran away, leaving the truck and the products behind.

He said that solid intelligence helped the Head of the Anti-Vandalism Squad, CSC Chris Nwosu, and his team to locate and stop the truck on Tuesday at around 4:45 PM along Awka Road in Onitsha.

According to him, this action is part of ongoing efforts to support the Commandant General’s mission to fight oil pipeline vandalism and illegal activities in petroleum products across Nigeria.

He added, "The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, in continuation of its operations in tandem with the Commandant General’s vision to eradicate the menace of oil pipeline vandalism and illegal dealings in petroleum products across the nation, has impounded a truck suspected of conveying 45,000 litres of adulterated Automotive Gas Oil mixed with gas condensates after the driver fled the scene."

"Credible intelligence led the Head of the Anti-Vandalism Squad, CSC Chris Nwosu, and his team to track and intercept the truck on Tuesday at about 1645 hours along Awka Road, Onitsha."

"Upon sighting the NSCDC team, the driver abandoned the truck and the products and fled the scene."

The command took the truck and the suspected adulterated product to the State Command Headquarters in Awka to keep it safe and carry out further investigations.

Olatunde emphasized that the corps will keep fighting against oil theft and illegal activities in petroleum products until all forms of economic sabotage are removed from the state.

He assured that samples of the product will be tested in a lab, and efforts are ongoing to catch the fleeing driver and anyone involved.

He warned those involved in such acts to stop immediately or face serious consequences under the law.

"We are ready to combat all acts of economic sabotage in the oil and gas industry and shall put in every effort to rid the sector of miscreants."

"We assure the public that the Command remains committed to strengthening intelligence, surveillance, and joint operations with sister agencies to fish out and bring perpetrators of economic sabotage to justice," he added.
