Rabiu Garba Aiki has won the Zuru State Constituency by-election for the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced that Rabiu Garba Aiki, who represents the All Progressives Congress, is the winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election.
The results were shared on Saturday at the collation centre by the Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammad Bashar from the Federal University Birnin Kebbi.
According to the official results, Aiki received 4,887 votes. His nearest competitor, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad from the Labour Party, got 168 votes.
Prof. Danladi mentioned that there were 109,385 registered voters in the constituency. He said 5,156 voters were accredited for the election. In total, 5,055 valid votes were cast, while 95 votes were rejected.
The breakdown of results by ward showed that the APC kept a strong lead in all 10 wards of the constituency.
This by-election was held to fill the seat left vacant by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
Even though the voting went smoothly, the turnout was low at many polling units. Accredited voters made up only a small part of the total registered voters in the constituency.
With this announcement, the APC continues to hold the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
