The All Progressives Congress candidate, Ikeje Asogwa, has won the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election held on June 20.

Asogwa received 162,360 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Chief Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 9,299 votes.

This by-election was held to fill the seat of the late Senator Okey Ezea, who represented the district and passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 62.

On Sunday in Nsukka, the Returning Officer, Prof. Christian Ezeibe, who is the Dean of the Students Affairs Department at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, announced the results. He stated that Asogwa had the highest number of votes.

“Asogwa having satisfied the requirements of the law in this election is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.

“I thank you all for your cooperation, support and maturity that made the by-election a success,” he added.

Ezeibe also revealed that there were 727,340 registered voters in Enugu North Senatorial District. Out of these, 184,094 were accredited to vote in the election.

The results showed that Chika Idoko Emmanuel of the African Democratic Party (ADC) got 1,676 votes, while Kingsley Aneke of the Boot Party (BP) received 1,607 votes.

Other results included Ejike Simon Eze of the Labour Party (LP) with 1,027 votes, OssElias Okwudiri Ossai of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) with 3,129 votes, and Charles Ugochukwu of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) who scored 667 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Asogwa, the senator-elect, said the results showed the strong support from people in the six local government areas that make up the Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

He promised to deliver quality and effective representation to prove that he is worthy of the trust the residents showed by voting for him.
