MultiChoice Nigeria has announced that betPawa will be the headline sponsor for the 11th season of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija). The show is set to premiere on 26 July.
This sponsorship comes as plans get underway for the new season. Contestants will compete for a record N160 million grand prize. This is the biggest prize since the Nigerian version of the show started in 2006.
The organizers revealed the premiere date and prize money at a media briefing in Lagos earlier this week. This follows months of auditions and screenings in Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu to select this season’s housemates.
Since its return in 2017, Big Brother Naija has become one of Africa’s biggest reality TV shows. It has produced celebrities, entrepreneurs, and social media influencers. The show has also sparked conversations about entertainment, fashion, and popular culture.
Past winners include Efe Ejeba, Miracle Igbokwe, Mercy Eke, who was the first female winner, Laycon, Whitemoney, Phyna, Ilebaye Odiniya, Kellyrae Sule, and the current champion, Imisi Ayanwale.
The program has become one of Nigeria’s biggest entertainment properties. It attracts sponsorship from top brands in telecommunications, consumer goods, finance, and gaming.
Borah Ndanyungu, betPawa’s Head of Local Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility, spoke about the new partnership. He said the company connects with the show’s focus on ambition and opportunity.
“At betPawa, we’ve always believed in backing people who dare to dream big. Whether it’s a customer celebrating a big win, an athlete earning a Locker Room Bonus after a hard-fought victory, or a housemate pursuing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the ambition is the same. Across Africa, we’ve built our brand by creating opportunities, rewarding excellence, and investing in the moments that change lives. Partnering with Big Brother Naija allows us to celebrate that spirit on one of the continent’s biggest stages, while connecting with millions of Africans who believe that with courage, determination, and the right support, anything is possible.”
The company stated that the sponsorship fits its larger goal of supporting initiatives that boost African talent and create opportunities for young people. Beyond gaming, it has invested over $1.5 million in sports development. This includes their Locker Room Bonus initiative, which rewards athletes with performance bonuses across Africa.
Although the organizers have not yet shared this season’s theme or the names of the housemates, viewers can expect the usual mix of tasks, nominations, evictions, and live shows that fans have come to love.
