The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has denied reports about his resignation. He warned that he would take legal action against anyone spreading the false news.
Mr Musa, a retired general, spoke on Tuesday with journalists after he briefed President Bola Tinubu on security issues at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He called the resignation report baseless, saying he has never talked about leaving his position.
“I’m not going anywhere. I have never discussed resignation. I don’t even know the person who brought that information,” he stated.
Mr Musa said he was shocked by the resignation claims. He believes it comes from people unhappy with the progress in the security sector.
“I too was shocked when I saw it. I don’t know where it came from, but you should expect that some people will not be happy when things are going well. The security situation is improving,” he added.
The minister mentioned that President Tinubu was pleased with the nation's improving security during their meeting.
“I just came back from briefing Mr President on the current security situation, and he is very happy with us. We are going to continue doing well,” Mr Musa said.
He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support of the armed forces. He noted that public cooperation is helping to achieve success against terrorists and bandits.
“The support has been massive, and you can see the changes.
“Defeating terrorists and bandits requires a whole-of-society approach, and Nigerians have embraced that. Things are getting better, and they will continue to improve,” he said.
Mr Musa, who was the chief of defence staff before his current role, became the defence minister last December. He took over from Mohammed Abubakar, who resigned shortly before.
