Delta State Police have arrested four suspected kidnappers and robbers in different operations. They recovered firearms and other items during these arrests.

SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this news in a statement on Thursday.

The statement said that on June 23, around 3:00 p.m., police got a report about two suspects involved in an attempted robbery. Investigations showed that one suspect entered a residential compound but ran away after he saw people inside.

Edafe mentioned that community members acted quickly, leading to the arrest of this suspect and his accomplice. They were handed over to the police.

"Acting on information gathered during the initial investigation, officers from the Ugborikoko Division searched the suspects’ home. They found a locally made pistol hidden in a wardrobe," the statement said.

The suspects are in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to check if they were involved in other crimes.

In another operation, officers from the ‘A’ Division in Ughelli teamed up with local vigilantes to catch two suspected kidnappers connected to a failed kidnap attempt on June 19, 2026.

The suspects, Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were arrested on June 22 at about 8:30 p.m. They were caught after coming out of a nearby forest to buy food and medicine.

Edafe said that a victim from a past kidnapping recognized these suspects as his attackers.

The police spokesman confirmed that the suspects are still in custody while investigations continue. Efforts are also being made to capture other gang members and recover the weapons they used.

Meanwhile, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, praised residents for their alertness and the teamwork between community members and police.

He encouraged the public to keep giving timely and reliable information to the police. He assured them that the command is dedicated to protecting lives and property across Delta State.
