The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark, and the National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, criticized the All Progressives Congress government in Ekiti State. They spoke on Thursday about what they called poor performance over the last three and a half years.
Mark and Aregbesola addressed supporters in Ado Ekiti during a rally for Dare Bejide, the party's candidate in Saturday's governorship election. They described ADC as the right choice for Ekiti people to improve their lives.
Mark encouraged the crowd, saying, "Vote for our candidate, Bejide, so that the Ekiti of your dream can be built. Give your votes to ADC.β He asked residents to support ADC as the party that could help Ekiti escape poverty.
Aregbesola spoke to the crowd of members and supporters. He said the ruling party and its candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, could not win the election due to their poor track record.
Aregbesola, who was a former governor of Osun State, rejected claims that ADC did not have the power to challenge the ruling party. He said the real test of support would be seen at the polls on Saturday.
Aregbesola stated, "We will meet at the poll. The APC has failed at the three tiers of government. APC may want to underestimate the opposition because of appearances, but such assumptions will prove costly.β
He expressed confidence that ADC would win if the election process was fair. He alleged that the ruling party would struggle without trying to manipulate the results.
Aregbesola added, "Iβm very happy that you are doing it here. If itβs more than this, it will become a problem. They say a needle is very small, but no hen can try to swallow it.β
He also praised women for their roles in elections. He urged them to come out and vote for ADC on Saturday and make sure their votes counted.
