An Enugu Air plane went off the runway after landing at Benin airport on Thursday afternoon.

The airline confirmed this in a statement. They said all passengers and crew got off safely, and there were no injuries or deaths.

“The aircraft has been secured and relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with established procedures,” the statement read.

“An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently underway.”

The airline mentioned that this incident will affect its operations and will require changes to some flight schedules. “Passengers affected by any changes will be contacted directly and provided with necessary assistance,” the statement added.

“The safety of our passengers, crew, and operations remains our highest priority.”

Video clips of the incident shared by PREMIUM TIMES showed passengers calmly getting off the aircraft after it stopped in what looked like a muddy part of the airport.

The footage showed passengers leaving the aircraft in an orderly way while airport staff and emergency responders were seen around the area.

Enugu Air, which is owned by the Enugu State Government, began commercial flights in July 2025 with three Embraer aircraft.

The airline became Nigeria’s second state-owned commercial airline after Ibom Air was launched by the Akwa Ibom State Government in 2019.

Since it started, the Enugu State Government has seen the airline as a key investment to improve connectivity, boost tourism, and support economic growth in the state.
