Enugu Governor Approves Hiring of 6,500 Teachers

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has given the green light to hire over 6,500 qualified individuals for different teaching, technical, and administrative roles in public primary and secondary schools.

This recruitment also includes teachers for the 267 Smart Green Schools located throughout the state.

Hyginus Banko, the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), shared this news in a statement on Wednesday in Enugu.

Professor Banko said the recruitment supports Governor Mbah’s goal of providing the necessary staff to implement the Smart Green School initiative and improve education quality in the state.

To qualify for these roles, applicants need a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a Bachelor’s Degree/HND in a related field, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

They also need a Nigerian Certificate in Education in the relevant subject areas. "Registration or proof of ongoing registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is mandatory," he added.

The chairman mentioned that there will also be openings for those with an Ordinary National Diploma and the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in related positions.

“All candidates applying for Degree or HND roles must have a valid NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate and show practical skill in Information and Communication Technology tools across all levels,” he said.

Interested candidates should send a formal application letter. This should include a detailed CV, copies of academic and professional certificates, a birth certificate or sworn declaration of age, and valid contact information.

Hard copy applications should be delivered directly to the Office of the Executive Chairman, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, Enugu State.

For those submitting electronically, all application documents must be compiled into one PDF file and sent to ENSUBEB’s official email address.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 14 August 2026,” Mr Banko said.
