Francis Fadahunsi, the senator for Osun East in the National Assembly, has voted at his polling unit in Ilase, Obokun Local Government Area, during Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

Fadahunsi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), arrived at Polling Unit 001, Ilase NUD Primary School, Ward 04, around 10:40 a.m. He voted alongside other registered voters.

After casting his vote, he called on polling agents and his supporters to watch the voting closely and know who voters are choosing.

He also made a statement that raised eyebrows, suggesting that anyone who did not vote for his party should not be seen as a true resident of Ilase.

“Anyone who casts votes wrongly is not an indigene of Ilase. I was in Ilesa; I will still be there before going to Ede,” Fadahunsi told his supporters.

He described the voter turnout at the polling unit as encouraging and asked his supporters to motivate more residents to take part in the election.

“The turnout is encouraging so far. You people should encourage them to vote, and we will see later,” he said.

Fadahunsi's statements come just days after he faced accusations of threatening to harm members of the Accord Party in Ilesa before the election.

The alleged threat reportedly happened on Wednesday when the senator spoke to supporters during a protest at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

The protest was held over what Fadahunsi called the constant killings of APC members in Ijesaland.

His comments added to the political tension in the area ahead of the election on Saturday.

Later, Fadahunsi clarified that when he used the word “kill,” he meant voting against the opposition.
