Family Seeks Justice After Businessman's Mysterious Death

The family of the late businessman, Solomon Iwerebor, is calling on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into his suspected murder. They want anyone involved to face prosecution.

Solomon’s brother, Justin, and his wife, Anthonia, were arrested on Monday over the case. Solomon was reportedly staying with them before he died.

At a press conference on Thursday, Solomon’s sisters, Stella Iwerebor and Udo Hamis, along with their lawyer, Dr Charles Mekwunye, SAN, expressed their sadness over how he died and the lack of details surrounding his death.

Solomon lived in Germany with his wife and kids. He hadn’t been seen by family for over two years after visiting Justin and Anthonia in Nigeria.

The family learned about his death from others on September 6, days after he reportedly passed away. They said they were not told of any illness he had before he died and couldn’t find out where he was treated or where his body was.

“All we want is a proper investigation. Our brother has died under very disturbing circumstances, and we want to know how he died.

“It is hard that we have lost one brother and another one, and his wife is a suspect in the death, but we want answers,” the family said.

They urged the police not to yield to pressure and to ensure a proper investigation.

“We want to know where his corpse is, what happened before and after he died, and why we were not informed four days after he passed. Our family deserves answers,” they added.

Before the arrests, Mekwunye's law firm had written to the Lagos State Police Command, asking for a detailed investigation into Solomon’s death. They also wanted to know where his body was, the name of the hospital where he was treated, and to see relevant medical records.

After the case went to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, and the suspects were invited, the family claimed that the Zone 2 Command tried to take over the investigation.

This situation led the family to write to the Inspector-General of Police on October 23, 2026.

In their letter, they claimed the suspects did not respond to police invitations at Panti. They also questioned why the case was moved to Zone 2, which they said lacks a homicide division.

The family asked the IGP to return the case to Panti and to send the final investigation report to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for proper legal action.

Following the arrests, the family urged the police not to give in to pressure to release the suspects too soon or to compromise the investigation.

They also demanded that the police identify the hospital in Benin City, Edo State, where Solomon was allegedly treated and obtain his medical records.

The family further called for the location of his remains to be established and for measures to ensure they are not moved, buried, cremated, or disposed of in a way that could hinder investigations.

They also demanded an autopsy or other forensic tests to find out the cause of death, following the relevant laws and procedures.
