The police in Anambra State have found out about a plan by four men to kill a Nigerian man and take his land in the state.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, shared this news in a statement on Thursday.

Mr Ikenga, who is a superintendent of police, said this incident took place in Ukwulu, a community in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He explained that the police discovered the alleged murder plot because of the efforts of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Nnanna Oji.

"The breakthrough happened on the evening of 12th August 2026. Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, along with Agunechemba security personnel from Amichi, Nnewi, acted on solid intelligence and quickly moved to stop the plot," he said.

The operation led to the arrest of four suspects named Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37. All four are men.

Mr Ikenga mentioned that the suspects were arrested in different places in Ukwulu and Amichi, another community in the same council area.

He did not reveal the name of the person they planned to kill.

During the operation to stop the plot, the police also seized two guns and live ammunition from the suspects.

"Initial investigations show that the suspects were linked to a plan to kill a citizen and take over his land," he said.

He added that the police are carrying out a thorough investigation to find out more about the conspiracy, identify other people involved, and understand the roles each suspect played.

"The suspects are now in police custody and will face serious charges once investigations are done," he said.

The police commissioner emphasized that this achievement shows how important the Command's focus on intelligence-led policing is. This strategy aims to spot threats early, disrupt attacks, and prevent loss of lives and property.

Attempted murder is against the law under Section 320 of the Nigeria Criminal Code Act. Those found guilty can get life imprisonment, according to this section.

In Anambra State, attempted murder is also a crime under the Criminal Code Law of Anambra State, Cap. 36, Vol. 2, 1991, where it is seen as a serious felony.
