Police nab four for planning to kill businessman over land

The Anambra State Police have arrested four people for allegedly planning to kill a businessman and grab his land in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

The suspects are Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37. They were arrested at different places in Ukwulu and Amichi on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, these arrests followed smart intelligence work by the state Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama.

Ikenga said the Rapid Response Squad from Awkuzu worked with security personnel from Agunechemba in Amichi and Nnewi. They arrested the suspects after gathering reliable information about the plot.

During the operation, police recovered two guns and live bullets from the suspects. The statement said, "The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered an alleged plot to murder a businessman and unlawfully take over his landed properties in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, following the strategic intelligence work of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama."

The breakthrough happened on Wednesday evening when Awkuzu Rapid Response Squad and Agunechemba security acted on solid intelligence to stop the alleged crime.

The operation led to the arrest of the four suspects: Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37. They were picked up in different areas of Ukwulu and Amichi.

The police also seized two firearms and live ammunition from them. Early investigations suggest that the suspects are linked to a plot to kill a citizen and seize his land.

Ikenga mentioned that the police are conducting a thorough investigation. They want to understand all the details of the alleged plan, find other people who might be involved, and figure out the specific roles of each suspect.

“The suspects are in police custody and will face the full force of the law after the investigations are completed,” Ikenga said. He added that the CP “stressed that this success shows how important the command's new intelligence-led policing strategy is. This strategy aims to detect criminal threats early, disrupt planned attacks, and prevent loss of lives and property.”
