FRSC Finds Gun After Anambra Road Accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Sector Command, has recovered a double-barrel gun from a road accident scene on the Awka-Enugu Expressway.

This was shared in a statement on Sunday by the Deputy Corps Commander, Osondu Ohaeri, who is also the Corps Public Education Officer.

Ohaeri said the gun was found on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. by an FRSC rescue patrol team. They were checking victims’ belongings after finishing rescue operations at the crash site.

He mentioned that this recovery shows that the Corps’ work goes beyond saving lives. It also helps to make the country safer.

The statement said, “During the exercise, officers discovered the double-barrel gun hidden among luggage inside one of the crashed vehicles.

“To follow the Corps’ rules and to keep the public safe, the rescue team quickly secured the gun. This was to stop anyone from accessing it or using it wrongly.

“No one claimed the weapon, and there were no proper documents for it when it was found. The gun was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and action.”

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the professionalism and alertness of the rescue team.

Mohammed said the situation shows the important role of the FRSC in aiding internal security through patrols and rescue operations across the country.

He pointed out that while the FRSC mainly focuses on preventing road accidents and helping crash victims, their staff also act as first responders. Their alertness has often led to the recovery of stolen vehicles, dangerous weapons, and other important items.

He assured the public that the FRSC would keep working closely with other security agencies to improve public safety and protect lives and properties.

“We urge drivers and everyone to follow the law and report any suspicious activities they see on the roads,” he said.

“We assure Nigerians that every rescue operation is done with the highest integrity, accountability, and strict adherence to set rules,” the statement concluded.
