Governor Okpebholo to Sign Death Warrants for Kidnappers in 30 Days

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has said he will sign the death warrants of four kidnappers sentenced to death. This will happen if they do not appeal within 30 days.

Mr Okpebholo made this statement while discussing his government's fight against kidnapping, cultism, and other crimes at the God’s People Worldwide Prayer Ministry in Ekpoma on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reminds us that the Special Criminal Court in Edo State sentenced the four kidnappers to death on 29 September. They were convicted for abducting a woman at the vegetable market along Airport Road in Benin.

The governor noted that insecurity was a serious problem when he took office. He decided to make it a priority after speaking with President Bola Tinubu, who encouraged him to take action.

“When the kidnappers attacked the vegetable market area, I told the commissioner of police that I wanted them arrested without delay,” he said.

The governor expressed hope that the sentenced kidnappers would not appeal their judgement. He stated, “If within 30 days they don’t appeal, I will execute (it).”

Traditional Rulers Consulted

Governor Okpebholo mentioned that he consulted with respected traditional rulers across the state before starting his campaign against kidnapping and cultism.

He warned the traditional rulers not to intervene for anyone involved in crimes. “I told them not to come begging me because I will not listen,” he said.

The governor also shared some strange experiences linked to spiritual forces. This happened after his administration demolished a building connected to a cult group.

“A black bird died in my office when I demolished their building. A vulture also died in my bed while I was contesting for governorship,” he added.
