Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has started a grassroots political campaign to strengthen his party before the 2027 general elections. This was announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Tofa, said Yusuf made the announcement during a meeting with members of the APC Polling Unit Supporters Association, called ‘Yan Akwatina. The group is led by Najib Salati.
The statement mentioned that the association has structures in all 44 local government areas in Kano State, covering 484 wards and polling units. This makes it one of the biggest grassroots mobilization groups for the party.
Yusuf said that re-electing President Bola Tinubu in 2027 would help continue the progress made in economic reforms and infrastructure development. He believes that ongoing grassroots mobilization will boost the party’s support and prepare it for success in the presidential and governorship elections.
To support the association, the governor reportedly donated plots of land and ₦100 million for its activities. "The re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 remains the best political opportunity for Nigeria to build on the achievements of the administration’s economic reforms and rapid infrastructure development," the statement quoted Yusuf as saying.
He also highlighted the need to engage supporters from the polling unit level to boost the party’s chances at the polls. "Our grassroots engagement will further strengthen the party’s support base and ensure victory across all elective positions in the state and at the national level," he said.
Earlier, the governor’s Political Adviser, Mustapha Bakwana, described the meeting as the start of the party’s grassroots mobilization strategy for the upcoming elections. He noted that the Polling Unit Supporters Association has the ability to gather at least 1,122,200 votes for Tinubu in the next presidential election.
Najib Salati, the association’s leader, thanked the governor for involving members in state and local government positions. He promised that the group would work hard for the party's success in the 2027 elections.
Umar Doguwa, the party’s Kano State Chairman, also spoke. He expressed confidence that the party would achieve a landslide victory, noting that their support base continues to grow as they prepare for the elections.
