Kano governor renominates commissioner who resigned over drug suspect case

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has renominated Ibrahim Namadi. He is the former Commissioner for Transportation and is up for reappointment to the state executive council.

Namadi had to resign in August 2025. This happened after there was a big uproar about his role in getting bail for Sulaiman Danwawu, a suspected drug baron.

On Wednesday, Governor Yusuf sent Namadi's name along with five other nominees to the state House of Assembly for screening and approval.

During the Assembly's plenary on Wednesday, Speaker Jibril Falgore announced the nominees. The other names include Salisu Yusha’u, Sani Lawan, Muntari Ishaq, Aminu Tsanyawa, and Idris Mustapha.

House Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini confirmed this news to Daily Trust. He said the nominees will appear before the Assembly on Monday at 10 a.m. for their screening.

Namadi was initially suspended after he stood as surety for the drug trafficking suspect. He submitted his resignation just hours after Governor Yusuf received the report from an investigative committee.

Namadi cited the sensitive nature of the case and public interest as reasons for stepping down. This situation has drawn a lot of attention in the state.
