Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has picked Alhaji Ibrahim Augie as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election. He replaces the current Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida.

A statement on the state government’s X handle revealed this news. The announcement was made on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu.

Argungu explained that the choice was based on professional legal advice about the eligibility of the current deputy governor. He said, "The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice."

He added that this decision was made with Tafida’s understanding and approval. Argungu emphasized that there was no disagreement between the governor and his deputy.

After this, Argungu officially announced Augie as the new running mate for Idris in the upcoming election. He urged politicians, APC members, and supporters in Kebbi State to accept this change and work together for the party's success in 2027.

Governor Idris also rejected any idea of a conflict with Tafida. He called for continued unity, support, and cooperation as his government aims for more development in Kebbi State.

Augie has previously served as the Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State under former Governor Atiku Bagudu. He comes from Augie Local Government Area in the state.
