Kwam 1 seeks support for daughter’s political dreams from Lagos Deputy Governor

Fuji musician Wasiu "Kwam 1" Ayinde is asking Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat to support his daughter, Damilola Ayinde-Marshall. Damilola wants to win a seat in the state House of Assembly in 2027.

Damilola is running for Surulere Constituency II under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.

Kwam 1 made this request when Mr Hamzat attended an event by the Muhtadeen Islamic Foundation (MIFO) on Sunday.

In a video shared on his Instagram page that went viral on Monday, Kwam 1 handed his daughter to the deputy governor, seemingly asking him to support her political ambitions.

Mr Hamzat laughed and pointed to Damilola's seat. Damilola looked amused by her father's public support.

While welcoming Mr Hamzat, the 69-year-old musician thanked him for the honor. He also expressed confidence that Mr Hamzat would win the upcoming governorship election in Lagos State.

He also predicted that President Bola Tinubu would win a second term in office.

According to Kwam 1, members of MIFO and Lagos residents, as well as Nigerians everywhere, would celebrate the successes of both Mr Hamzat and Mr Tinubu.

"Obafemi Hamzat, our deputy governor today and the incoming governor, by January and February, we will dance a lot of victory dances. We will dance over the deputy governor who will become governor.

"We will dance over Nigeria and the Yoruba people across the world, and over our father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will serve a second term, so that there can be peace and prosperity for this country. That is how it will be, by God’s grace," he said.

Additionally, Kwam 1 said Mr Hamzat is enjoying the benefits of his time as a member of the former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola’s team, as well as his contributions to MIFO.

He added that MIFO members were happy to welcome Mr Hamzat, noting that the group set the stage for his governorship ambition 13 years ago.

"We have been working for him because I remember the promise we made to God. Openly, 13 years ago, when we were on this same journey, everyone in this environment will bear me witness.

"Our excellency (Babatunde Fashola) at that time, who is a member of MIFO and has supported MIFO since we started, made us proud with his presence and everything he did to keep MIFO strong, and we backed him," he added.

He said Mr Hamzat supported Mr Fashola when he wanted to become governor, doing all he could to help his campaign.

"When he showed interest in running for governor, we prayed for him. He came to this area and made many promises, and among his team that year was Dr Obafemi Hamzat. I stood beside Hamzat while our excellency, Babatunde Fashola, stood at the front.

"Because of Hamzat’s efforts that day to ensure Fashola became governor, I held Hamzat’s hand and told him that he would also become governor of Lagos State. Since then, we have been on the path toward him being governor."
