Kwara gives 25 Hilux vans to police to boost security

Kwara State has given 25 Toyota Hilux vehicles to the police command. This move is to boost security operations and help officers get around, especially in difficult areas.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq shared the news on Monday during a ceremony at Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin. He said other security agencies in the state will also get vehicles as part of a plan to provide about 100 vehicles.

A statement from Mashood Agboola, the deputy chief press secretary to the governor, dated 12 October, explains that this effort is to keep up the recent success in fighting crime in the state.

Mr AbdulRazaq praised the police and other security agencies for their hard work in improving safety. He said the state has made great strides in the past months.

"We have made serious progress in the recent months. And to sustain the work they have been doing we have decided to provide mobility vehicles for the police force," the governor said.

He mentioned that the delivery of the vehicles would happen in phases. The police will get the first batch, while other security agencies will follow later.

The governor also encouraged citizens to support the police by sharing useful information that can help prevent crimes and aid investigations.

"Active intelligence gathering is the most important thing to nip things in the bud and make sure they don’t degenerate," he added.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Adekimi Ojo, noted that this donation will enhance the command's ability to operate, especially in hard-to-reach locations.

He said this effort is part of the governor's larger support for the police, which also includes special allowances for officers on special assignments.

Mr Ojo promised the state government that the vehicles will be used properly. He also said the command will work harder to improve security.

"The security system has improved but we are going to double our efforts to achieve greater success," he said.

This donation comes as Kwara State continues to face security challenges, including reported kidnappings and attacks on residents.
