Kwara: NSCDC handles 36 cases of domestic violence in six months

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State has reported that it managed 36 domestic violence cases from January to June 2026. They also dealt with many other gender-related issues in the state.

This update came from a statement released on Wednesday in Ilorin by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Shola.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Mohammed, spoke about their achievements. He mentioned that they secured a life sentence for a convicted sexual offender during the same period.

Mohammed said the command also dealt with 19 child custody cases. Out of these, 15 cases were resolved, while four are still pending.

“The command also handled 19 child custody disputes, of which 15 have been resolved, while four remain pending,” he stated.

The commandant shared that they received 38 cases of child abandonment. So far, six cases have been resolved, and they are still investigating the others to ensure the children are safe.

“The command received 38 cases of child abandonment, with six successfully resolved, while efforts are ongoing to conclude investigations and ensure the welfare of the affected children,” Mohammed said.

On the issue of kidnapping, Mohammed reported that nine abduction cases were filed during this period. He added that four victims were rescued and returned to their families thanks to the NSCDC's efforts.

“Nine abduction cases were reported during the period, and four victims have since been reunited with their families through the timely intervention of the Corps,” he mentioned.

The command also stated that eight cases related to rape, sexual assault, and child molestation are currently in court.

“Eight cases involving rape, sexual assault and child molestation are currently before competent courts for prosecution. The Command remains resolute in ensuring offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law,” Mohammed added.

Mohammed highlighted one of their major successes. He noted that securing a life sentence for a sexual offender shows the Corps’ dedication to getting justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

He praised the Gender Unit personnel for their hard work and professionalism. He encouraged residents to report any cases of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual offences, and other forms of gender-based violence quickly for immediate action.

He promised that the command will continue to protect the rights and dignity of women, children, and other vulnerable groups. They will do this through careful investigations, working with relevant partners, and strictly enforcing the law.
