Lagos launches directory to assist GBV survivors across Nigeria

The Lagos State government has released a directory of gender-based violence (GBV) coordinators in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. This will help survivors report abuse and find support services.

The directory came out through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA). It lists office addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for GBV response contacts in each state.

Onadipe Opebere, who leads the agency's public affairs unit, shared this news in a statement on Monday.

The directory was created after a two-day National Convening of GBV State Coordinators. This event took place in Lagos State to improve teamwork among those focused on preventing and responding to GBV.

The project was supported by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC II) Programme. The European Union funds this program, and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) carries it out.

“The directory provides key contact details of GBV State Coordinators, serving as a practical resource to support reporting, referrals, and access to appropriate response services for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence,” the statement said.

“It is designed to strengthen coordination and referral pathways among stakeholders working in GBV prevention and response, while making it easier for citizens to identify and connect with the appropriate state-level contacts.”

The agency encouraged individuals, government bodies, civil society groups, and community organizations to use the directory and share it within their circles.

Ms Opebere emphasized that the agency is dedicated to building partnerships and organized responses to GBV. They want to help survivors across Nigeria get timely and suitable support.

The DSVA is a Lagos State government agency that deals with domestic and sexual violence and offers support services to survivors.
