Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has launched a 600-member campaign team for the African Democratic Congress in Kebbi State. He called for unity, reconciliation, and issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami inaugurated the team in Kebbi on Wednesday. He urged its members to work together to create a strong grassroots campaign structure that can gather support across the 21 local government areas in the state.
He emphasized that the launch was not just about naming campaign officials. It marked the start of a coordinated effort to spread the ADC’s message to communities, wards, and polling units all over the state.
According to him, the campaign team was formed to reflect the diversity of Kebbi State. Members come from different communities, local government areas, and senatorial districts.
"This Campaign Council represents our collective ADC campaign. It is not about one candidate or one elective position. From the governorship to the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly, we must work as one political family," Malami said.
He specifically mentioned the party’s senatorial candidates, including Gen. Aminu Bande for Kebbi Central, Garba Maidoki for Kebbi South, and Chiroman Kabi, Alhaji Mera, for Kebbi North, along with other candidates running for the National and State Assemblies.
Malami urged the team members to stay away from tribalism, sectionalism, and personal rivalry. He warned that internal divisions could hurt the party’s chances of reaching its political goals.
He called for reconciliation among members, especially to address any grievances or disagreements that might come up during the campaign.
"Where there are disagreements, let us reconcile. Where there are grievances, let us listen. Where there is suspicion, let us rebuild trust. Our diversity must become our strength," he said.
The former minister introduced the theme of "One ADC, One Campaign." He urged all candidates and supporters to put the party's interests above personal ambitions.
"Different candidates, one ADC. Different communities, one Kebbi State. Different responsibilities, one common purpose," Malami declared.
He also warned members against hate speech, ethnic insults, and attacks on political opponents. He stressed that political competition should not ruin the relationships among communities.
"After the elections, we will still worship together, attend the same markets, celebrate together, mourn together, and raise our children together. No political ambition is worth destroying those bonds," he said.
Malami described the appointments as a call to service, not a reward. He tasked the more than 600 campaign team members to gather supporters, reconcile aggrieved members, and share the party’s programs with voters at the grassroots level.
He urged members to return to their communities as ambassadors and bridge-builders. He insisted that the campaign's success will depend on their ability to work together and stay disciplined.
The inauguration comes as political parties start to strengthen their grassroots structures and mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kebbi is expected to see more political activities as parties prepare for contests in the governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly levels.
Malami said the launch marked the beginning of a new phase of mobilization for the ADC in the state. He urged members to focus on the party’s message and the people's interests.
"We choose unity over division. We choose cooperation over rivalry. We choose reconciliation over bitterness. We choose respect over insults. We choose service over personal interest," he said.
"Let us rise above our differences. Let us rise above tribalism and sectionalism. Let us arise together in service to our people. And together, let us make Kebbi State shine. Arise and Shine!" he added.
