A London football club, Charlton Athletic, is helping police after a man was found dead at The Valley stadium on Tuesday morning.
Police arrived at the stadium after an incident that happened in the early hours of Monday morning. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the Championship club said in a statement on Tuesday evening.
"The death remains under investigation," Charlton stated.
The club also urged anyone with information or who saw the incident to contact police at 101, mentioning reference 2809/18AUG.
Charlton sent its condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased man.
"Everyone at Charlton Athletic would like to express their deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the individual’s family, friends, and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time," the club said.
The club mentioned it would keep helping authorities with their inquiries and asked for respect for the privacy of those affected.
"There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing on the part of the club," Charlton added.
The club also thanked its staff for how they handled the situation.
"Charlton Athletic would also like to thank its staff for the professionalism they have shown while dealing with a particularly difficult and distressing situation," the statement said.
