The Rivers State Police have arrested a man named Richard. He is accused of killing his girlfriend, Caroline Sunday, during a fight over cheating claims in Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The fight happened on Saturday. Richard confronted Caroline about being unfaithful, but she denied the accusation.
According to local residents, the argument turned violent. During the struggle, Caroline fell and hit her head on a sharp part of the wall, which caused serious injuries.
One resident, who did not want to give their name, said, "During the argument, he assaulted the woman. She fell and hit her head against a sharp edge of a wall, resulting in severe injuries."
The resident added, "Neighbours who heard her screams rushed to the scene and found her lying in a pool of blood. Efforts to revive her failed before the police were alerted."
After the distress call, officers from the Eneka Police Division quickly arrived. They found angry residents who had caught Richard and held him until the police got there.
Caroline was taken to a nearby hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
On Tuesday, Blessing Agabe, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. She said Richard is in police custody and investigations are ongoing.
"I can confirm that the suspect is in our custody. An investigation is ongoing to find out what really happened and make sure justice is served."
She added, "As soon as the incident was reported, our officers acted quickly and arrested the suspect. The deceased’s body has been recovered and taken to the mortuary."
