The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man named Samuel Akoade. He is accused of killing his mother, Olufunke Akoade, in Ore, which is the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday around 5pm in the Powerline area of Ore. Reports say that Samuel attacked his mother with a machete, causing serious injuries that led to her death.

On Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident. He stated that the suspect is now in police custody.

Jimoh said, “The incident occurred on Sunday, 16th August 2026, when the command received a report that the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood at her residence. Preliminary information revealed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.”

Police operatives from the Ore Division quickly went to the scene after receiving the report. They secured the area and started a preliminary investigation. They also recovered a machete believed to have been used in the attack and took photographs of the scene.

Samuel, the suspect, reportedly ran away before the police arrived. But after some time, the police were able to find and arrest him. He was then taken into custody.

Jimoh mentioned that Olufunke's body has been moved to a mortuary. As for Samuel, he remains in police custody.

The case has now been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation. Jimoh added, “The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.”

Jimoh also reassured residents that the police are committed to protecting lives and property. He urged the public to share any useful information with the police, especially about suspicious activities in their areas.
