Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has presented a list of more than 10,000 achievements from his first term in office. This covers key areas of the Enugu State economy.
The list, called “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Should be Re-elected as Governor of Enugu State,” was shared with the public at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, on Wednesday.
This document includes details like over 1,521 kilometres of built and repaired roads, more than 7,000 classrooms, 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, Enugu Air, the New Enugu Smart City, and the revival of old assets.
Mbah was represented by Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai. He explained that the document supports the Citizens Charter, also known as Executive Order 001. Mbah signed this order right after he took office on 29th May 2023 to show his commitment to accountability and transparency.
He pointed out that the document shows the administration’s focus on major infrastructure projects. He also noted that it does not list everything accomplished up to the unveiling date.
“Our assignment today is not just to unveil the Citizens Charter via the compendium. It is a lot more than that. It is a conversation on the sacred duty and responsibility you gave to us to manage your resources.
“But above all, it is important to know that the document we are about to unveil does not completely capture everything this government has done because of the time it took to prepare this document, there was a cut-off point running months behind.
“So, this document that we shall unveil shortly does not in any particular way represent the actual successful achievements of this government as of 9th September 2026.”
He expressed gratitude to those who believed in his vision and helped him win the election in 2023. He promised those affected by tough decisions that Enugu was on track to become a $30 billion economy and a top choice for investment and tourism.
“I also want to thank all those who made sacrifices, who lost their friends because they felt supporting us was the right thing to do. I want to thank everyone who invested their resources. I want to thank all who worked hard in challenging conditions to ensure that Enugu moves to the next level.
“But what you must remember is that our intentions are good. What we are trying to do is to put Enugu on a path to greatness. What we are doing is to make sure that Enugu will not compete with Nigeria or within Nigeria,” he added.
In his speech, Secretary to Enugu State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, mentioned the state's focus on urban development. He highlighted projects like the New Enugu Smart City, environmental sustainability, and urban renewal.
He also said the state’s financial management has improved through revenue automation, reforms at the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, and better financial practices. He added that the administration has invested in youth empowerment, women development, technology, skills training, and community development.
“Behind every project is a community; behind every policy is a citizen; and behind every statistic is a human being whose life government seeks to improve,” he noted.
He emphasized the need for institutional reforms to maintain government programs, stating, “Sustainable development needs not only visible projects but also institutions and systems that can support those projects.”
Dr Ben Nwoye, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress, praised the administration's achievements and the range of projects completed across the state.
Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Uchenna Ugwu, also praised the Governor for his development efforts, promising the support of the legislative arm.
Igwe Samuel Asadu, Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, praised the government's performance, saying a good government should be backed to continue until 2031.
“We have never had it so good. It is not about party. But let us give the work to those who understand the job. The governor wants to grow the Enugu State economy to a $30 billion economy and that is exactly what he is doing,” he said.
Victor Udeh, Chief of Staff to the Governor, described the compendium as a proof of the administration's commitment to accountability.
The event attracted political leaders, traditional and religious figures, industry leaders, professionals, public servants, and other stakeholders, who applauded the administration for its wide-ranging efforts across the state.
