Nasarawa Senator Switches Parties Again, Joins APM from ADC

The Senator for Nasarawa South, Ogoshi Onawo, has switched from the African Democratic Congress to the Allied Peoples Movement. This change comes less than two weeks after he joined the ADC.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau announced Onawo’s defection during the Senate meeting on Tuesday.

In his letter, Onawo stated that he resigned from the ADC in Galadima Ward, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, effective June 15.

Onawo said he made the decision after discussing with his constituents and political associates. He felt it was important to ensure he made the right choice.

"This decision is the outcome of careful reflection and wide-ranging consultations with my constituents, political associates, and other critical stakeholders," the letter said.

He pointed out that his move to APM was due to the problems within the ADC. He believes these issues prevented him from focusing on his duties to his constituents.

"It is driven by my firm belief that the prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battle it is currently embroiled in no longer offer the cohesion, support, and enabling environment required for me to focus squarely on effectively representing my constituents and to fully realise the development and progressive mandate they entrusted me."

Onawo expressed happiness about joining the Allied Peoples Movement. He thanked his supporters for their trust and cooperation during this change.

This is not the first time Onawo has switched parties. Just weeks ago, he left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the ADC.

He was one of nine senators who announced their move to the ADC during a Senate meeting led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on March 12.

Back then, Onawo said he joined the ADC because he believed in democratic values and good governance.
