The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has sent its National Election Observers Team to Osun State for Saturday’s governorship election. The association aims to monitor the voting process and ensure the rule of law is followed during the election.
The team, led by Festus Okoye, who is the Chairman of the NBA Election Working Group, arrived in Osun State on Friday. They will observe how the election is conducted on Saturday.
In a statement, the association said this deployment shows its commitment to credible elections, respect for the law, and following the right electoral processes.
NBA’s communication officer, Stella Charles, mentioned that the NBA team stopped in Akure, Ondo State, before heading to Osun State. They were welcomed by members of the Akure branch of the NBA, led by chairman Onimisi Umar, along with other members of the executive committee.
This deployment comes at a time of increased focus on security, political tensions, and the credibility of the electoral process before the election.
The NBA has been observing elections to help professional and civil society groups monitor adherence to electoral laws and track events during elections.
The Osun governorship election is set for Saturday. Fourteen political parties have candidates in the race. This includes the current governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, and Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
