The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has warned Royal Air Maroc of possible sanctions. This comes after the airline has repeatedly ignored the authority and treated Nigerian passengers poorly.
Michael Achimugu, the NCAA spokesperson, shared this news in a post on X. He said the airline has a pattern of problems. These include baggage issues, bad treatment of passengers, and slow responses to customer complaints.
"Royal Air Maroc was sanctioned for the first time in 2025 for not protecting consumers. We expected them to do better in handling complaints from Nigerian passengers," Mr Achimugu said.
He mentioned that even though the NCAA has tried to support the airline, not much has changed. "Baggage continues to be lost without timely updates to passengers. Compensation is not paid consistently. Complaints usually get attention only after the NCAA steps in and applies pressure."
Treatment of Regulatory Invitations
The NCAA also claimed that the airline treats requests from the regulatory body with disrespect. Mr Achimugu said that Ahmed Boussouf, the country manager for Royal Air Maroc, mostly stays in Lagos. He often sends representatives to Abuja who do not have the power to make decisions or solve problems.
Mr Achimugu described a recent situation where Mr Boussouf ignored the authority's role. He said the manager told the NCAA, "Whatever you want to do, do." This shows a lack of respect for the regulatory body.
"Our job may be tiring and thankless, but the NCAA, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister Festus Keyamo, and the DGCA, Capt. Chris Najomo, will not accept such open defiance and refusal to comply," Mr Achimugu added.
