Nigerian Army Saves Two Kidnap Victims in Taraba

Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, part of Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have rescued two men who were kidnapped. This rescue happened during a patrol in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026. It followed reliable information about armed criminals operating around the Lande Jessi area.

In a post on X on Sunday, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, shared that the troops acted quickly after reports came in about a criminal attack on Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani communities. During this attack, two people were taken and food items were stolen.

While searching for the victims, the troops found and rescued Mr Usman Mohammed and Mr Usman Harusu. They had been held captive for about a week.

Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Akaliro, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their quick action and professionalism. He said this successful rescue showed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Taraba State.

“The successful rescue is a clear demonstration of the troops’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the state,” Akaliro stated.

The Brigade Commander added that this operation followed the orders of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to tackle crime and restore peace across Nigeria. He encouraged the troops to keep up the good work and stay alert to prevent criminals from acting freely in their areas.

“We must continue to maintain the tempo and ensure that criminal elements have no space to operate within our area of responsibility,” he said.

Akaliro also assured residents that the Nigerian Army is dedicated to protecting law-abiding citizens. He urged them to keep working with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

After their rescue, the victims were reunited with their families. Meanwhile, troops are still conducting operations to enhance security in affected communities.
