A Nigerian man named Obinwa Obichukwu has been sentenced to two years in prison. He sexually assaulted a woman twice at Euston railway station in London. This was after an investigation by the British Transport Police.

The British Transport Police announced this in a statement on their website. The 45-year-old Obichukwu, who lives on Armstrong Close in Hertfordshire, was sentenced at the Inner London Crown Court on July 21. He was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault in January.

Along with the prison term, the court gave him a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He will also stay on the UK sex offenders register for 10 years.

According to the prosecutors, the incident happened on the evening of August 20, 2023. Obichukwu approached the victim while she was walking towards Euston station. He asked her what music she was listening to and then put his arm around her shoulder. He asked her to go home with him.

As the woman kept walking along Euston Road, Obichukwu allegedly grabbed her hand multiple times. He told her he loved her. The police reported that he later blocked her from entering the station and sexually assaulted her at the entrance.

The victim went down the escalator towards the London Underground platforms. But Obichukwu followed her and sexually assaulted her again near the ticket barriers. She managed to push him away and escaped, leaving him at the station. She later reported the incident.

British Transport Police officers tracked Obichukwu to his home and arrested him. Investigators said that the victim’s testimony, along with CCTV evidence, helped the Crown Prosecution Service to authorize two charges of sexual assault against him.

Detective Constable Daniel Burke spoke about the conviction. He called Obichukwu “a sexual predator” who specifically targeted a lone woman. He said, “Obinwa Obichukwu is a sexual predator who targeted a lone woman and attacked her at a busy London station.

“He claimed his assault was consensual and took his case to trial, but fortunately, the jury saw straight through his lies, and he’s now behind bars where he belongs. Tackling violence and intimidation against women and girls is a priority for us as a force, and we’re tireless in our efforts to bring offenders like Obichukwu to justice.

“If you experience or witness these crimes on the railway, please report them to us by texting 61016. We will always take action,” Burke said.
