Nigerian troops save 11 kidnap victims, catch 21 terror suspects

Nigerian security forces rescued 11 people kidnapped by terrorists and arrested 21 suspects involved in terrorism, logistics support, and drug trade. This happened during coordinated operations in Borno, Zamfara, and Kogi States. The reports came out on Thursday.

The operations were part of Operation HADIN KAI, Operation Fansan Yamma, and Operation MESA. They took place between July 21 and July 22. Military reports showed that the operations led to rescues, arrests, and the destruction of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) aimed at both security forces and civilians.

Details of Operations

Borno: Troops from Operation HADIN KAI caught three suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers near New Abbaram Resettlement Village in Bama Local Government Area. They found food items and flavourings believed to be for terrorist use. Also, two teenage girls who escaped from the Grazah terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountains surrendered to troops in Gwoza.

Threats to Safety: Combat engineers safely detonated two IEDs found on the Dambua-Bulabulin-Kumala road. They also discovered a third explosive device on the Cross Kauwa-Kekeno-Monguno road, and fragments were collected for forensic analysis.

Monguno: While raiding criminal hideouts, troops arrested 12 suspected drug dealers and seized cannabis, tramadol, and other illegal drugs.

Zamfara: Under Operation Fansan Yamma, troops clashed with terrorists along the Gambada-Gummi-Sokoto road. This forced the insurgents to run away, leaving behind 11 kidnapped victims and a motorcycle.

Kogi: Security forces arrested a suspected informant connected to the infamous terrorist leader Kachallah Babangida. They also detained three other suspects in Adavi and Lokoja Local Government Areas. Troops intercepted two couriers carrying food, drinks, and cigarettes, which were meant for terrorist groups in the state.

Continued Efforts

Military officials stated that search-and-rescue missions are ongoing in Owo, Ondo State, after two people were kidnapped. Troops in that area found a bicycle and bags of charcoal left by a fleeing logistics supplier.

The military said these actions are part of a larger plan to break down terrorist logistics networks, free hostages, and weaken the power of criminals across the country.
