The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says soldiers on duty across Nigeria killed over 102 terrorists, criminals, illegal miners, and informants in July. They also arrested 486 suspects and rescued 393 kidnapped victims during their operations.
The DHQ shared these figures in an infographic released on Thursday, summarizing military actions across the country for July.
PREMIUM TIMES reports that the Defence Headquarters started sharing monthly operational infographics earlier this year. So far, they have published summaries for January, February, March, May, June, and July, but there was no infographic for April.
In this latest release, the DHQ mentioned that 57 insurgents surrendered to troops during this time.
The infographic revealed that troops destroyed 18 illegal refining sites and other criminal hideouts. These operations mainly targeted oil theft and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
Troops also recovered over 250,500 litres of illegally refined petroleum products during these operations.
Additionally, soldiers seized 1,870 weapons, ammunition, and other military supplies from terrorists and criminal gangs in various parts of the country.
The Defence Headquarters did not break down the locations of these operations or specify the regions where arrests, recoveries, and rescues happened. They also did not categorize the suspects beyond calling them terrorists, criminals, illegal miners, and informants.
The military insists that ongoing operations all over the country aim to weaken the operational strength of terrorist groups, armed bandits, oil thieves, and other criminal networks.
Nigeria still faces many security issues, such as Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks in the North-east, armed banditry in the North-west, kidnappings for ransom in various states, separatist violence in parts of the South-east, and oil theft in the Niger Delta.
Recently, the military has stepped up coordinated land and air operations, often reporting the arrest or killing of suspected criminals and terrorists, the rescue of kidnap victims, and the recovery of weapons. But it is often hard to verify military casualty figures because many operations happen in remote or hard-to-reach areas.
Updates on operations for the first half of 2026 show continued offensives in various areas, according to DHQ data analyzed by PREMIUM TIMES.
