The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and some clouds from Saturday to Monday across Nigeria.
In its weather report released on Friday in Abuja, NiMet said the northern region would have sunny skies with some clouds on Saturday.
The agency warned of possible thunderstorms with moderate rains in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states in the morning.
“By the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states.
“For the North Central region, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in parts of Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory in the morning.
“Later in the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecast in parts of Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory,” it stated.
NiMet also said moderate rains are likely in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa states in the south during the morning hours.
The agency expects moderate rains across the entire southern region later in the day.
On Sunday, NiMet sees thunderstorms with moderate rains in parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states in the morning.
In the afternoon, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in parts of Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states.
“For the North Central region, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Niger and Kwara states, along with the Federal Capital Territory in the morning.
“Later in the afternoon or evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected across the region.
“For the southern region, light rains are possible in parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Rivers states during the morning.
The agency anticipates thunderstorms with moderate rains across the entire southern region later in the day.
On Monday, NiMet predicts partly cloudy skies over the northern region, with possible thunderstorms and light rains in parts of Bauchi, Jigawa, and Yobe states in the morning.
The agency expects thunderstorms with moderate rains across the region in the afternoon and evening.
“For the North Central region, sunny skies with some clouds are expected during the morning.
“Later, in the afternoon or evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecast across the region.
“For the southern region, cloudy skies are expected, with chances of light rains in parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states during the morning,” it stated.
Thunderstorms with moderate rains are also expected across the southern region later in the day.
NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions. Ensure loose items are secured to avoid accidents, as strong winds may come before the rains in areas expecting thunderstorms.
“The ongoing rains in the coastal areas of the South could lead to flash flooding. Avoid driving or walking through flood waters. Driving in heavy rain should be limited.
“Unplug electrical appliances from sockets. Stay clear of tall trees to avoid falling branches or trees.
“Airline operators should get weather reports specific to their airports (flight documentation) from NiMet for better planning. Residents should keep updated with weather news from NiMet. Visit our website,” it advised.
