Obi promises to chase kidnappers if elected in 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has promised to unite Nigeria, fight insecurity, and tackle corruption if he becomes president in the 2027 election.

He said he would chase kidnappers to their hideouts.

Obi spoke on Wednesday at a town hall meeting in Calabar, Cross River State, with party members and supporters.

He emphasized that his government would focus on national unity, security, education, healthcare, and the well-being of citizens.

Obi stated, "Nigeria is currently divided. We will work to unite this country, because uniting this nation would provide the strength needed to confront insecurity and other national challenges."

"Our commitment is to unite Nigeria. Nigeria today is not united. If we unite Nigeria today, we will have the strength to fight insecurity."

The presidential candidate said he would not accept the ongoing security issues, especially kidnappings and attacks on schoolchildren.

"Anybody that kidnaps school children and goes into the bush, we will be in that bush with him, wherever it is. We are not scared of him," Obi said.

He promised that security agencies under his leadership would track down kidnappers to rescue abducted schoolchildren safely.

On the issue of corruption, he vowed to tackle it head-on, stating that public funds should serve the people.

He said his administration would fight against corruption to stop the misuse of public resources for personal interests.

"We will fight corruption head-on. We want people to stop stealing public money. Public money must be used for public good and for the welfare of the people," he said.

Obi also promised to boost investment in education and healthcare, calling both areas crucial for national progress.

He described his political partnership as a fresh approach to governance, based on shared responsibility and a commitment to change the country.

"We represent a new Nigeria that is possible. We represent a governance that people have not seen in Nigeria before," he said.

The former governor of Anambra State said the meeting in Cross River aimed to let residents ask questions and share their concerns freely.

He encouraged everyone to speak up and seek clarification, emphasizing that the meeting was meant for listening to the people.

"The style is to listen to you. You are free to ask any question. No restriction. Make any comment. That is why we are here," he said.
