The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man named Daniel. He is accused of drugging and assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Ogun State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, shared this news in a statement on Sunday.
The statement says the suspect allegedly mixed a drug in the girl's malt drink. This made her lose consciousness, and he then had unlawful sex with her without her consent.
The FPRO mentioned that the girl was taken to the Olukoye Ransome-Kuti Memorial Hospital in Asero for a medical check-up. Meanwhile, the suspect is now in police custody.
The statement read, "Police operatives arrested Daniel, 22 years, for allegedly drugging a 15-year-old girl with a malt drink, causing her to lose consciousness, and subsequently having unlawful carnal knowledge of her without consent.
The suspect is in custody."
He also noted that the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran is looking into the case.
This recent arrest happened about a month after PUNCH Metro reported that the Ogun State Police Command arrested a 50-year-old man named Saliu Akinwande. He was accused of defiling an 11-year-old girl in the Agbado area of the state.
The young victim was also taken for medical examination and treatment. The older suspect was sent to the SCID in Eleweran for further investigation and possible prosecution.
